CSS Stucturing
We will be discussing how to construct a web site by using div elements and using CSS to manipulate the layout.

We are going to continue with CSS today and I will also walk you through a web tutorial above on layout using CSS.
Assignment 5 - Internal/External Cascading Style Sheets
Create 2 HTML documents with text and 1 Cascading Style Sheet.
Use internal CSS to manipulate the text of one of the web pages and an external CSS to manipulate the other.
Also apply a background image that doesn't repeat.
Extra Credit
I realize that many of you have had a few absences. In addition I'm also aware that my policy of no late work makes it hard to turn stuff in, although I will take work emailed to me.
So here is your opportunity to make up missed work.
The extra credit assignment is to do a 'facelift' on an existing website. You are to find a website and improve the look and feel of the page. Any links on that page will go to existing links, but I want you to make the website more aesthetically pleasing and better in terms of functionality.
These will not be due until the end of the quarter.
Week 06
We are supposed to be continuing on the Midterm according to eCompanion, however, I believe that this was set up a while ago, back when Midterm occured at Week 6 instead of Week 5.
So for this class, I want to introduce you to CSS. We will also be covering this next week as well. I will also demonstrate how I go about designing a webpage and graphic elements. I will show you how to create simple rollovers and image swapping.
We will also discuss the final project so that you will have some idea of what you will be asked to do. I will cover some CSS and layout stuff in Dreamweaver.
Week 05
HTML Midterm Progress
- Using Photoshop or any means you prefer to mock up the look of the site you want to create
- 3 Pages total for site
- Each Page linked to each other
- The landing page named index.html
- At least a total of 4 images throughout the site
- One page set up to use anchor tags
- Use at least 1 headline tags
- Emphasis text by bolding/italics/underlining/strikethrough
Coding
- All code written to meet W3C XHTML standards
- Have each paged titled
- Set targets for links
- structured your site in a table
- Add comments for sections of code explaining what the following section is
Place this text at the top of your html document
(this will replace your tag at the top)
After you complete your midterm we will have a brief critique of the homework.
Week 04
HTML Tables
This week we will cover tables. Using them to create structure on a web page.
Assignment 4 - Tables
Create 2 web pages that are structured by a table layout.
Include images along with text on the page.
Week 03
Hyperlinks, Optimizing GFX using Photoshop, Fonts
We will be going over anchors and hyperlinks after we review the quiz.
I will also be showing you how to use Photoshop to save web graphics. The general thing you should know is that web graphics for the screen resolution is 72 dpi. Resolution for print is 300 dpi.
Assignment 3 - Links and Anchors
Create 2 HTML pages.
First page containing 2 images and a link to your second page.
Second page contains anchor tags.
(This page will need to contain a lot of content so that the anchor tags will be able to display their job, you can use the text generator from Lipsum )
Week 02
We will go over the quiz and then talk a little bit about the homework assignment. I would like to compare some of the websites that were submitted.
I will demo how to do the homework assignment in class step by step.

Assignment 2 - Introductions
Create a single HTML web page with a quick paragraph or 2 about whatever subject you want to talk about, could be about yourself, your dog, favorite color, how you want to rule the world and torture everyone by making them listen to the spice girls for 24 hours a day,7 days a week<-pure evil.
The following is required in this document
Background - color or image
Text Altering - such as bold, italics, whatever.
1 Image - not as the background

Week 01
We're going to first start out with the syllabus. That's will take us anywhere from 30-45 minutes.
I will talk about myself and my background briefly and how I learned HTML.
Then we will talk about
- Web Definitions
- Base HTML coding
- Basic Design
We will discuss what each of the follow is in relation to:

We will talk about proper structure when creating code.
We will talk about how values define attributes.
We will touch upon block elements and inline elements.
And we will discuss the differences between elements and values.

Week 1: Assignment 1 - Good/Bad Sites
Part 1:
In a word document write up on four websites that you feel are good in design, functionality, and color scheme.
Part 2:
In a word document write up on four websites that you feel are bad in design, functionality, and color scheme.
Each critque of each web site should be at least a paragraph, detailing why you feel it is good or bad web site.
When you have completed the assignment drop the word document in to the dropbox.
